Resumen:
The melanocortin system includes the melanocortins, their receptors and two endogenous antagonists. This system is involved in several physiological processes in the brain. Melanocortins have potent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in the central nervous system (CNS). Therefore, they are suitable candidates for the treatment of inflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders of the brain.
