Resumen:
This chapter is devoted to show our research results on glassy systems (made with mixtures of oxides) where the main objective is to improve not only the ionic conductivity but also some other physical properties of the glassy matrix, e.g. glass transition temperature (Tg), enthalpy of matrix relaxation and stress reduction during the synthesis, in order to obtain associated benefits for their technological applications. This research is focused on the modification action given by the incorporation of molybdenum oxide in the glassy matrix in order to have a better understanding of the correlation between ionic conductivity and features of the ?glassy matrix structure? at atomic level, short-range order and even at intermediate-range order. It is interesting to understand the ability of the glassy matrix to repolymerize with different oxides and its influence on the ionic transport, on the activation energy of the conductivity mechanism and on its conductivity magnitude. Particularly, the electrical response of lithium cations (as charge carriers) in glassy matrices modified by the incorporation of molybdenum oxide is analyzed. The whole study gives the opportunity to understand how it is possible to tune the middle-range glassy structural order and, as a direct implication, to control the electrical conduction process at the nano-scale dimension. In consequence, this will lead to the development of better solid electrolytes for technological devices under favorable circumstances.
