Resumen:
Wetlands are ecosystems frequently impacted by metal contamination. Aquatic and wetland plants play an important role in the uptake and accumulation of metals from natural wetlands and constructed wetlands for the treatment of different wastewaters. This chapter describes the macrophyte metal accumulation in constructed wetlands for effluent treatment at different scales of study and in natural wetlands that receive contaminants. The data showed in the chapter are referred to studies carried out at microcosms and field-scale wetlands constructed for the treatment of industrial wastewaters. These results may contribute to the design and maintenance of these treatment systems and the contaminant mitigation in natural wetlands.
