Highlights•The CbrAB system regulates the production of bacteriocin in Pseudomonas fluorescens SF39a.•Mutants cbrA-, cbrB-, crcZ- and crc- are affected in protease and pyoverdine production.•The CbrAB system is essential in P. fluorescens SF39a for wheat root colonisation.•Bacteriocin producer strain SF39a is a good candidate for the formulation of bioinputs.
