Resumen:
As the rest of South America, Argentine society presents several problems in social justice dimensions that intertwine each other. In this presentation we will discuss he methodological and theoretical background we based on to study the misrecognition and exclusion of indigenous people. From a collective memory perspective any accounts of the past implicate a political dimension in as much as such accounts can legitimize, or negate, the historical basis of claims for reparation for past injustices. Moreover, historical delegitimization increases opposition between groups, because history is one of the sources for legitimizing claims and providing them with temporal continuity. In this vein, Social Representations’ approach to memory may contribute to developing a conceptual framework which emphasizes the relational and material grounding of acts of remembering. Considering social representations of the social groups’ past experiences as a part of the memory system includes the collective constructed narratives that dialectically attach specific meanings to both the environment settings and the autobiographical memories. We consider that this tension between both types of narratives about the common past to discus and reflect on qualitative research from the study of memory for Mapuche indigenous communities.
