Resumen:
Cherax quadricarinatus is a freshwater crayfish of great interest in aquaculture. This study estimated the point of reserve saturation (PRS) in two juvenile stages of different size with the purpose of reducing production cost and improving survival during early development. Stage III and 1-gram juveniles (J1g) were assigned to different feeding periods and 2 controls: continuous starvation and continuous feeding. The experiment finished when all juveniles molted or died. The relationship between the percentage of molts per treatment and feeding period was estimated by sigmoid regression. PRS50 for juvenile stage III was 4.83±0.58 days. According to this, juveniles must be fed for a period equal to 50% of the stage duration to obtain 50% of molting. PRS50 obtained for J1g was 11.30 ±1.01 days, representing 70% of the stage duration. This information is useful to improve growth and survival of C. quadricarinatus, thereby increasing culture profitability.
