The Latin American student movement began a new cycle of protest at the end of the twentieth century, expressing strong discontent with the consequences of the neoliberal policies implemented in those decades. As we shall see in the following pages, the protest cycle of the 1990s gave rise to new theoretical approaches. The student movement became part of these refections due to the radicalism and explosiveness of its demonstrations (Aranda, 2000).
