We have derivedmetallicities from CaII triplet lines and ages from both the δVparameter and (V,V-I)  color-magnitude diagrams. We havestudied 29 star clusters and approximately 700 field starssurrounding these clusters. We have analyzed and compared thechemical properties of those clusters and of their surrounding fieldstars. We found evidence for possible differences between thechemical evolution histories of these two different SMC stellarpopulations.
