New results concerning expanded networks of obsidian procurement in San Matias Gulf, Rio Negro, Patagonia Argentina

In this note we present the geochemical characterization of the obsidian types found in San Matías Gulf coast, Patagonia, Argentina. This is very important evidence in Patagonia coastal research, due to obsidian is a scarce raw material in coastal sites and of non-local origin. Also, we present the results of the techo-morphological analyses of the recovered artifacts that we have performed. Finally, we introduce a new obsidian type that has been found for the first time in the Atlantic coast of Patagonia. By this means we propose some trends about circulation and use of obsidian at San Matías Gulf during the Middle and Late Holocene.
