Resumen:
Chagas disease is endemic in our country and represents a major public health issue. The efficacy of treatments is variable depending on the infecting strains and the stage of infection, in addition to presenting adverse effects and increasing parasite resistance. Natural products, such as tetrahydro-β-carbolines (βC), indole-type alkaloids with a common tricyclic nucleus, have shown a variety of pharmacological activities including anti-trypanosomatids effects. We synthesized 12 synthetic alkaloid derivatives and studied their antiparasitic activity in vitro. Four of them presented significant activity against the different stages of T. cruzi and showed low citotoxicity. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate their in vivo efficacy on the murine model of infection.
