Resumen:
The monitoring and simulation thermal behaviour of a passive solar school at the Northwest of La Pampa province (Argentina) and the results of social-environmental surveys are presented. The passive strategies are direct solar gain, thermal mass and insulation of the building envelope, daylighting and natural ventilation. The monitoring is carried out under normal conditions of use.The studied weeks includes two different periods: a) under real conditions of use (with the presence of students and the use of the heating system) b) winter vacations no heating. The transient thermal simulation was performed with SIMEDIF for Windows. Values measured and simulated had a very good agreement. The monitoring and thermal simulation of the building allowed to evaluate the performance of the glazed areas, the rooms orientation, and the use of the heating system. The daily energy consumption was 0.009m2/sup of builded area, so a 95% of energy saving is reached, compared with a conventional school for this region. The survey showed that the PPD (Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) is around 5 when the main temperature is 17ºC and the relative humidity is 27%. In the analyse were considered 1.6 clo (with jacket) and 1.8 of metabolic rate.
