Resumen:
In this paper we compare different econometric models to study the socio-economicdeterminants of alcohol consumption patterns, taking into account the natural order ofalcoholic beverages behavior: abstinence, occasional, moderate and excessive or abusiveconsumption. For the empirical application, we take the National Survey of Substance Abuseof Argentina conducted in 2011. The comparative results show evidence in favor of partiallyordered generalized models as opposed to heterogeneous choice model. In turn, these twohave a better performance to standard ordered logit model.
