Resumen:
Maintenanceof crop yield requires the massive use of fertilizers which provide essentialmacronutrients (such as N, P and K). There is a wide consensus about thenecessity of improving the efficiencies of acquisition (ANE) and utilization(NUE) of these nutrients. The aim of phenotyping plants for high NUE assumesthe possibility to estimate it unequivocally. While NUE is defined as the amountof biomass produced by the nutrient content in plant tissues, the estimationcriterions for it have been recently questioned. For K, the use of theoreticalmodels allowed to advance in the comprehension of the effect of differentsources of variation on NUE as well as the capacity of different indicators toreflect the actual NUE. In this work it is proposed a methodology for NUEphenotyping, involving: i) thecorrect selection of the population to be evaluated, ii) culture of plants at a low or nil external K-concentration; andiii) the use of indicators ofefficiency validated through the use of simulation models. In addition, weintroduce some results obtained for wheat with bi-parental populations andnulli-tetrasomic lines.
