Resumen:
Neuquén Group (Upper Cretaceous) residual deposits in Neuquén Basin, Argentina: importance in reservoir characterization In this paper features of small and medium scale contributing to the identification of geometries and relations in subsurface reservoirs are illustrated considering the relevance in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons. This type of depositional remnants of lithostratigraphic units of the Neuquén Group containing strata exhumed reservoirs or migration (carrier beds) are characterized. During the late stages of underfilled basin, low accommodation and under high pulsed supply, there is a tendency to the preservation of the depositional geometry. This is common in Candeleros and Huincul Formations (Río Limay Subgroup) and Bajo de la Carpa Formation (Río Colorado Subgroup). During the early stages of underfilled basin in Cerro Lisandro Formation (Río Limay Subgroup), of deltaic medium-scale accommodation remnants, lacustrine deposits isolated on acting as seals in the deep basin (foredeep) were generated. While in the area of peripheral basin, under high accommodation space favored the preservation of aeolian dunes and generation erosional valleys that affect the overlain Huincul Formation erosional remnants forming. The erosional remnants are common as medium-scale remnants in Portezuelo Formation as a result of deposition under low accommodation, during the period of underfilled basin. Under similar conditions the Bajo de la Carpa Formation generates erosional aeolian remnants and excavation of small-scale fluvial valleys in Plottier Formation.
