Resumen:
In this work we study the mixing of granulates (d = 8mm) while driven periodically back and forth through a constriction in a horizontal oscillating frame. The oscillation frequency was chosen small enough so that the inertial effects due to the particles velocities could be neglected. The system is composed of two square boxes of size 220x220 mm2 connected by a slot of size D = 50 mm. The ratio D/d >5 ensures a continuous flow without blockages. On the one hand we visualize the dynamic of particles and obtain their trajectories and velocity field which allows us to describe the different behaviors of granulates according to their locations in the boxes. On the other hand we quantify the blend of grains of equal size. To do that, we start with an equal amount of black and white particles initially segregated at each side of the slot and then, in each cycle, we measure a mixing index at each side as a function of the number of oscillations. In particular, we determine if a stationary blend and well mixed system might be achieved after successive oscillations for different oscillation amplitudes.
