Resumen:
The temporal evolution, towards high compaction states, of granular systems undergoing a vertical vibration, is linked to a progressive ordering of the network of the grains center of mass. This phenomenon plays a key role in practical applications, e.g. tapping is a useful way to minimize payload costs by increasing the packing fraction. The aim of the present work is to study the dynamics of a simple two-dimensional granular system of a few disks with non-uniform mass, i.e. their center of mass displaced with respect to their geometrical center, undergoing a vertical periodic tapping. These disks are vertically enclosed, i.e. one on top of the other, in a rigid container of width slightly larger than the disks diameter, ensuring a constant packing fraction between taps. During the excitation process, we analyze for each particle the evolution of the angular orientation of its center of mass with respect to its geometrical center.
