Aging is associated with impaired performance in behavioral pattern separation (PS), theprocess of transforming similar representations or memories into dissimilar,non-overlapping representations. The hippocampus, in particular, the dentate gyrus (DG)and its projections into the CA3 subregion are essential for this process. In this study, weaimed at evaluating the effect of aging on discrimination of overlapping memories of objectlocation or features. We also studied the expression of Doublecortin (DCX) in thehippocampus.
