Resumen:
In this paper, the effectiveness of arsenic rejection from synthetic water was evaluated using two commercial nanofiltration membranes(MPF-34 and TFC-SR3). The influence of operating parameters such as transmembrane pressure, crossflow velocity and the presence of ion Cl-on the arsenic rejection and permeate flux, was investigated. It was found that an increase of transmembrane pressure led to higher arsenic removal and permeate flux. The presence of Cl- in feed solution enhanced the removal of arsenic. TFC-SR3 membrane achieved a maximum rejection of 99.80% at 15 bar, whereas for MPF-34 membrane the mean rejection was 98.34% at 5 bar. The TFC-SR3 membrane showed better characteristics for membrane separation process due to a concentration of arsenic in permeate lower than the limit established by the World Health Organization(10 μg/L).
