Resumen:
Mixed ZrO2/TiO2 oxides with variable zirconia to titania molar ratios have been prepared by the sol-gel process, using as zirconium precursor n-propoxide and titanium isopropoxide mixed at different ratios and hydrolyzed with water. X-ray diffraction, thermal differential and thermogravimetric analysis, Laser Raman spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy have been used to understand the structural properties of zirconia-titania oxides calcined at different temperatures. The thermal behavior was sensitive to the mixed oxide chemical compositions. In solids with ZrO2 as the major component the addition of TiO2 retarded the onset of the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. In the opposite side it was observed that the anatase to rutile transformations of TiO2 was inhibited by the presence of ZrO2. By doping, also the sintering and crystallite growth rates of the sol-gel derived ZrO2/TiO2 oxides were retarded. The average crystallite size was found that depend on the solid composition.
