Chilean volcanology in the Latin American context: current state and perspectives for the new generations This work gives an overview of how Chilean and Latin-American volcanology has been growing on the last decade. While each country has different degrees of progress and diverse organizational structures in terms of volcanic risk management, two common actors are generally recognized: volcanic observatories and universities. The challenge is to give continuity to its evolution, involving the new generations of volcanologists, strengthening programs of specialization, and establishing networks between different countries in the region to joint efforts in the improvement and learning from the experiences of all. In the Chilean case, we carried out a summary of the institutions and the monitoring centers of the country, giving a general view of the context and reaches of the expertise area
