Resumen:
The respiratory epithelium is a complex and highly-regulated inert barrier separating the human airway from the external environment. Although this epithelium is fundamentally a protective barrier and one of its important roles is to produce cytokines, growth factors, nitric oxide, matrix metalloproteinases and many pro and anti-inflammatory substances. Different authors have reported that macrophages, neutrophils and pulmonary epithelial cell for the other contribute signicantly to inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression resulting in enhanced NO production in the lung in different situations. On the other hand, labile Zinc (ZN) plays a major role in the control of inflammation via a number of mechanisms and is associated with an transcription factors. The implication of NO generation in lung illness, which are significant  cause of morbidity and mortality in man, are evaluated. Also, we tried to evaluate the association of the Zn deficiency with the major source of iNOS in lung as neutrophils and macrophages(activated cells) , clearance of surfactant lipids and airway remodeling in critical lung illness
