Resumen:
Aedes aegypti (L.) can transmit serious human arboviral diseases including yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya and zika and therefore it is considered a species of international concern. The use of larvicides in containers that can result as potential breeding places and cannot be eliminated is the main alternative in control programs. Worldwide reports of resistance to temephos, the main larvicide used, point out the need of new larvicides for mosquito control. The insect chemoreceptor system has been shown to be sensitive to reagents reacting with sulfhydryl groups. Previous work from our laboratory demonstrated that pretreatment of larvae with N-ethylmeleimide (NEM) resulted in an inhibition of behavioural responses to natural and synthetic chemical stimuli in Ae. aegypti and produce fedding and mating deterrency in Triatoma infestans. Nevertheless its insecticidal activity has not been evaluated. In this work we evaluate the effect three N-substituted methyl maleamates on Ae. aegypti larvae and we found they have larvicidal activity. The mortality caused by these maleamates was fast and occurs within the first 60 min.
