Resumen:
In the immature brain, many neurotransmitters play a role entirely different from that which they in mature brain. The present work examines the developmental changes in different transport activities in the cerebral brain from the day after birth. Specific uptake of radiolabeled L-Serine (Ser), GABA and L-Glutamate (Glu) was examined using neonatal rat brain homogenates. The preparations were incubated with 10 nM of [3H]Ser, [3H]GABA or [3H]Glu in either the presence or absence of sodium or potassium chloride, at 2°C and 30°C, for different periods up to 30 min. Previous findings showed that specific uptake of [3H]Ser and [3H]GABA are affected by the presence of Na+ and K+ ions at 30°C 21 days after birth. In summary, [3H]Ser, [3H]GABA and [3H]Glu was incorporated into homogenate fractions depending on temperature, cations, and the age of rats.
