Resumen:
The goal of this paper is to study the relationshipbetween the use of animal resources by hunter-gatherers andthe environmental modification that occurred with the onsetof Middle Holocene aridity in the southern Altiplano of theAndes. This objective will be pursued taking into accountboth regional and local spatial scales. In the regionalanalysis, our purpose is to study relevant changes in animalspecies? patterns represented in the archaeological recordfrom both sides of the Andean range. For these reasons sometheoretical issues regarding habitat fragmentation and lossare addressed. In order to reach our objective in the localscale we discuss isotopic values (d13C and d15N) obtainedfrom archaeofaunas recovered in a rock-shelter, located inthe Argentinean slope which presents Early and MiddleHolocene human occupations.
