Resumen:
This chapter reviews the current information available for the Central and South-Central Andes, and includes a discussion about the principal indicators traditionally used for identifying domesticated forms. New criteria, including contextual information, new                   standards for osteometric analysis, and fiber analysis allow us to trace the process of camelid domestication. Based on this evidence we propose a new chronology for the initial (4500-4000 B.P.) appearance of the llama and the existence of multiple centers of origin.
