Resumen:
The efficacy and safety of a novel BHV-1gE marker attenuated vaccine was evaluated in adult bovines.  Thirty bovines were immunized using the marker vaccine either by intranasal delivery or intramuscular or intravenoulsy (pregnant bovines). A group of naive animals were used as controls during the immunzation period as controls for the potential horizontal spread  of the vaccine virus. After 42 days of vaccination wild type  BHV-1 virus infection was performed. No virus shedding was detectd after immunization in any of the groups of bovines nor horizontal infection was detected in the naive controls during the absence of virus challenge, showing a high safety feature of the vaccine. All the pregnancies got to term normally after virus challenge, showing an addtional safety feature of the vaccine. All the animals resolved the virus infection after challenge in few days independently of the inoculation route, showing the efficacy of the strategy.
