Recently, we received an indication that the fibreglass-reinforced plastic technology could be competitive in price with the current rotomolded polyethylene technique used in tank fabrication for the Pierre Auger Project. Because of this, we requested the industry to provide some sample tanks made of fibreglass-reinforced plastic material for testing. We have received from Petroplast S.A. two 50-liters tanks with the characteristics listed in Tables 1 and 2. Although we did not test the mechanical roughness of the tanks, they appear to be extremely strong. Such tests of the material should be performed in further work. The purpose of the present paper is to report the results of tests performed on these tanks to study only the opacity of the wall material.
