Resumen:
The pile-up effect occurs when two or more particles hit the same segment of a detectorwithin a time interval so short that they cannot be individually resolved. This constitutes asource of undercounting that must be corrected when using the Underground Muon Detectoras a counter. In this work, we present a new pile-up correction strategy that exploits thewhole temporal structure of the measured signals. We compare its performance to other threestrategies, including the one currently implemented in Offline. We observe that for typical inputsignals, all strategies but the one of Offline perform well. For a wide or a double-bump-likeinput signal, the only strategy that remains with a bias close to zero is the one introduced inthis work.
