CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC AND THERMAL STUDIES OF COPPER AND COBALT COORDINATION COMPLEXES WITH IMIDAZOLE

Coordination complexes have been a topic of great interest due to its fascinating structures and functional properties. Herein the synthesis, crystallographic and thermal studies of copper and cobalt coordination complexes with imidazole are studied.The molecular structures of Cu(Im)4(SO4) (1), Cu(Im)3(SO4)(H2O) (2) and Co(Im)2(Cl)2(H2O) (3) were confirmed by X-ray diffraction study of single crystals. In the case of 1 a transition phase is observed at 170 K, with a change in space group from C2/c to C2. Thermal studies of all the complexes including differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and optical microscopy will be performed in order to study the evolution of the crystalline structure with temperature.
