Descripción:
We describe the construction and operation of a pilot eScience platform consisting in an Educative Windows HPC Cluster (EWHPCC). The platform is based on the Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 tools and clustered commodity servers built with a combination of the 64-bit Windows Server 2003 and the Microsoft Compute Cluster Pack; the hardware consists in ten machines Dual INTEL  Dual Core Xeon 5030 2.67 Ghz with hyper threading support (40 nodes). Here we describe the EWHPCC platform construction and its application to the parallel numerical integration of an eight dimensional function using the Monte Carlo method, domain decomposition and the MS-MPI2 standard. The calculations showed that the system attains scalability with efficiencies close to the ideal one. The EWHPCC thus constructed allows for high-performance computing (HPC) in a familiar Windows-based development environment accelerating time-to-insight by providing an eScience platform that is easy to deploy, operate, and integrate with existing infrastructure and tools
