Tenebrionidae arerepresented in Mexico by eleven subfamilies, 43 tribes, 239 genera, and 1231species. The state of knowledge of the family is examined including types andcollections which house collections from Mexico. Most studies on this family inMexico have focused on adult taxonomy. Relatively few studies have incorporatedimmature stages or biodiversity. A table summarizing tribal and/ or genericstudies during the last 50 years andappendix indicating the taxonomic diversity of the tenebrionids genera arepresented. TheMexican components of this family are also examined in terms of diversityincluding adaptations to arid conditions, endemism, biogeographical origins,habitat biology, and economic importance. Comparisons are made between theMexican mainland fauna and the slightly better known fauna of Baja California.
