Resumen:
It is quite established that the simulation of the large structures of a turbulent flow (Large Eddy Simulation, LES) presents little difficulty if one is ready to sacrifice the whole logarithmic decade of unknowns of highest wavenumber. This is of course unfeasible (it amounts to throwing away more than ninety nine percent of the calculated values!), implying that LES simulations are inherently discrete in the sense that any differential equations that define the LES model are underresolved. As a consequence, a specific assessment is needed for each combination of LES model and numerical method.
