Resumen:
Water stored in confined aquifers allows to define the palaeoclimatic conditionsprevailing in the recharge areas if any temperature sensitive tool, like oxygen-18, isavailable together with a good estimate of the water age, as shown by Dansgaard1. Thiswork and the ones that followed, performed with data from the Global Network ofIsotope in Precipitation (GNIP) from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),have clearly shown the relationship between the oxygen isotope composition and themean temperature at the recharge area. Besides, studies applied to South America2,3also confirm these results.
