Resumen:
ABSTRACT: Water resources of the La Pampa province are scarce and groundwater is the main water supply. This work presents the isotope characterization of the phreatic aquifer, located at Quemu Quemu town, La Pampa. The main goal of this study is to investigate the origin of recharge and salinisation mechanisms. Groundwater isotope content is relatively homogeneous and consistent with meteoric recharge. Groundwater of the dune area responds to the isotope composition of the average of the local precipitation and its electrical conductivity is low. Waters more saline and with similar isotope content are related to the conduction zones, where the salinity is due to dissolution processes during transit. Groundwater with higher salinity and enriched isotope composition is associated to discharge zones and the salinisation is essentially due to mechanisms of evaporation prior to infiltration.
