Resumen:
SUMMARYWith the glycocholic acid d13C we can analyze the bacterial deconjugation of the conjugated bile acid.  Afterits ingestion, we can make evident an excess of 13C in the carbon dioxide of the expired air, when the deconjugation is increased , either by bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine or by ileal resection.  Before the administration of glycocholic acid enriched with 13C  till 90%, two breath air samples were taken, and then hourly for seven hours. The collected air was submitted to cryogenicspurification. The ratio of 13C/12C was determined on each sample with a dual collector mass spectrometer. Four children with different pathology were studied: ileal and caecum resection; diarrhea with bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine and gastrostomy with esophagus atresia; ileum and 80% of colon resection and intestinal resection for jejunum-ileum atresia. Only one patient showed a significant amount of the d13Cin the expired air. The possible causes of results were discussed. The development of diagnostic technique in breath air, with the use of one stable isotope is described. Its prominent characteristicis the absence of radiation hazard, significant event, for the age of the studied patients.
