Dealing with stochastic oscillations in epidemics

Some stochastic systems exhibit an approximate oscillatory behaviour, even when the deterministic system that corresponds to its macroscopic limit is not oscillatory. We will see how to characterize such behaviour for two-components systems, of the kind generally used in population dynamics, chemical kinetics, epidemiology, etc. Even if the motivation for this study originated in the existence of quasi-cyclic epidemics, the results are of much more general application.
