Resumen:
Severely deformed materials develop novel properties because of the accumulation of linear defects, twins and grain fragmentation. Starting with a highly energetic material it is possible to tune properties by complex combinations of heat treatments and further deformation. The analyses of the corresponding microstructures require efficient techniques allowing statistically sounding experiments and large scale scans. Highly collimated and intense x-ray synchrotron sources together with EBSD provide data that can be combined and analyzed to convey sensitive information about the evolution of phases, defects, grain sizes, textures, dislocations, etc.We show synchrotron radiation experiments performed at LNLS (Campinas-Brazil) and DESY (Hamburg-Germany) together with EBSD experiments performed in a few metallic systems. The materials have been subject to various thermo-mechanical processes, either ex- or in-situ, for evaluating the evolution of volume fraction of phases, defects and textures. We present results on Shape Memory Alloys, Interstitial Free steels, Mg, Cu and Al alloys subject to rolling, Accumulated Roll Bonding, ECAP and tensile deformations. The analyses show the advantages of performing combined experiments, where the high resolution and penetration of synchrotron radiation together with local microstructural information allows a better understanding of the deformation phenomena.
