Resumen:
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases, many of them parasitic, which mainly afflict the poorest people and with limited access to health services. NTDs have received limited attention despite their magnitude and impact on global public health. Chagas, Leishmaniasis, and Malaria diseases are NTDs and are a significant health problem in Latin America, affecting millions of people. Current treatments for these diseases have numerous disadvantages: duration of treatment is long and with a high cost, low therapeutic indexes, side effects, teratogenicity and drug resistance. There is an urgent need for new or improved treatments for these diseases. In this work, a new chemical entity derived from the monoterpene compound thymol was synthesized and evaluated its activity in vitro against NTDs, as Chagas, Leishmaniasis and Malaria diseases.
