Resumen:
On the basis of petrological and geochemical analyses it is postulated that the amphibolites of the metamorphic complex of the cerro Valdivia are derived from basic igneous rocks. This origin has been assumed on two geochemical criteria, the absolute abundance levels of minor elements and the nature of the trends of evolution and re1ationhips of both major and minor elements. With this new evidence, added to the recents contributions to the same field, it appears possible to maintain that practically ah amphibolites occurring iii the metamorphic belts are of igneous origin.
