Resumen:
The ISSCT MolecularBiology webinar was held on 2nd August 2022 with the theme“Genome editing of sugarcane”. The ISSCT General Secretary,Dr JC Autrey, welcomed the participants and thanked them for sparing their timeand efforts to share their research outcomes at the webinar. Dr MF Pereraintroduced to the webinar that was divided in two parts, the fist one involvedtwo general presentations about technology, applications and regulation and thesecond one summarized four cases of study at different sugarcane researchcentres. Genome editing (GE) is a technology to produce genetic modifications in which DNA is inserted, deleted orreplacedwithin a specific sequence of the genomeof an organism by usingengineered nucleases. It has been tested in a wide range of economicallyimportant crops providing higheryields, increased nutritional quality, weed protection and improved abiotic and biotic stresstolerance/resistance (diseases andpests) (Rahman et al., 2019). For sugarcane, even considering that it has themost complex of all crop genomes with both high ploidy level and geneticredundancy, there are several successfulstudies of GE that will be detailed later in the Presentation Section.Thewebinar offered a platform for knowledge-sharing and discussion, highlightingthe results obtained at the moment, the challenges (or problems) that stillexist and the future actions. [Revisor1]Pleasecould you help me with this information ?
