Resumen:
The first synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) was carried out by Arthur Rudolf Hantzsch in 1882 (Scheme 1), through a multicomponent reaction between 2 equivalents of a B- ketoester, an aldehyde and ammonium acetate [1].This protocol is still widely used due to its simple one-pot process, but yields of 1,4-DHPs by the Hantzsch method are generally low. In the last decade 1,4- DHPs have received much attention because of their wide range of pharmaceutical and biological properties (Fig. 1).According to the aforementioned, it is important to discover improved protocols for the synthesis of 1,4-DHPs towards clean, milder and high yielding approaches. This review covers selected protocols and applications of 1,4- DHPs and is not organized in chronological order
