Resumen:
This work presents a study on the preparation and characterization of mesoporous catalysts with Ag that are able to adsorb toluene during the cold-start at low temperature and hold it up to normal operating temperature of the converter (≥ 350°C).MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41 (Si/Al=20) were synthesized with a specific surface of 1218 and 666.1 m2/g, respectively. The pore sizes were obtained between 2 and 4 nm. These mesoporous supports exhibit good adsorption of toluene at 100°C.Zeolitic materials, such as mordenite, have high affinity for the aromatic ring of the toluene molecule. Unlike these, the methyl group has a preferential adsorption on the mesoporous catalysts. An increase of 70% of μmol of toluene adsorbed was produced with the addition of 2 wt. % Ag by wet impregnation to the support Al-MCM-41 (Si/Al=20).It can be observed that the impregnated samples begin to release the adsorbed toluene at 200°C and hold it up to 550°C.
