Ever since agriculture started ten thousand years ago, humanity has been able to produce sufficient agricultural products to sustain civilization. During this period, the traditional farming methods (with some variations) were almost all based on a notion that associates soil tillage with the cultivation of plants. This way of practicing agriculture ?known as the ?tillage based paradigm?? generated high costs in terms of general agro-ecosystem deterioration since it caused soil erosion and degradation, organic matter and nutrients depletion, and desertification, among others
