Resumen:
The chemical composition of alcoholic extracts of three Argentinian artichoke cultivars ?Gauchito? (GA), ?Gurí? (GU) and ?Oro Verde? (OV) was analysed using liquid chromatography coupled to ultraviolet spectroscopy and quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-UV-ESI-QTOF-MS). The richest diversity in chemical composition with caffeoylquinic acids and flavonoids was determined in the fresh leaves of GA and GU cultivars. However, highest content of caffeoylquinic acids was determined in the fresh bracts. So, both alcoholic extracts of the edible bracts and the leaves were assessed by their 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity through thin layer autographic assay. All cultivars were confirmed to have radical scavenging capacity and effect of these cultivars on the human neuroblastoma cells viability was evaluated. GA and GU presented the strongest effect on inhibition of tumor cell proliferation. In addition, these cultivars were able to decrease interferon I (INF-I) activity as demonstrated by reporter gene assay (RGA) cell line.
