Resumen:
Abstract: This study evaluated the effects of several environmental parameters on seedlings survival in Cypress of the Cordillera (Austrocedrus chilensis) both in the greenhouse and  in the forest. In the greenhouse studies, seedling survival was avaluated under different irrigation and light regimes. In the forest, association of seedling  with vegetation cover was analyzed. Although adult cypress trees are regarded as intolerant to shade, regeneration appeared to require conditions other of light. The intolerance of cypress to shade varied with growth phases, becoming more emphasized in  adult phase. It is concluded that in the greenhouse and in the forest, cypress regeneration takes place mainly under conditions that are protected from desiccation
