Resumen:
Seismicity, a very complex spatio-temporal phenomenon due to itsintermittent characteristics, exhibits different degrees ofcorrelations, both in space and time. In this work we analyze, bymeans of the different existing methods, the scale-free statisticsthat spatial distances and waiting times between successiveearthquakes present. The corresponding critical exponents aredetermined, and regional seismicity is characterized as a SelfOrganized Critical phenomenon. Thereafter, we propose a model forregional seismicity as a network of boxes (fractally distributedwith size, to be filled with particles representing stress quanta)which interact in a sandpile-fashion. The results obtained by thesimulation of the model are then compared with the experimentaldata.
