Resumen:
Cadmium (Cd) toxicity on Bufo arenarum embryos was significantly increased by means of sub toxic concentrations of estradiol (E2). Pretreatment with 0.1mg/L of Cd could enhance this phenomenon. The E2 uptake in these embryos was about two times higher than in control amphibians while their weight was significantly lower than in control or acclimated embryos to Cd. The results point out that estrogen like compounds (endocrine disruptors) could enhance Cd toxicity while Cd could enhance the uptake of estrogen like compounds.
