Resumen:
Simultaneous exposures to low level physicochemical agents represent common environmental scenarios. In this study we report the effect of low level exposures to copper on amphibian embryos by means of challenge conditions with this metal, UV-B and estradiol (E2) as a reference substance of potential estrogenic disrupters. The results point out that low-level exposure to copper could modulate the resistance of amphibian embryos to toxic concentrations of this metal but not the adverse effects of UV-B irradiation. Low level exposure to E2 exerts a protective effect in all experimental conditions while high levels of E2 produce adverse effects on embryo survival. Therefore, low-level xenoestrogens could provide a beneficial effect on embryo survival in the case of toxicity exerted by different environmental agents.
