Resumen:
In this paper, a signal-based strategy is proposed for interturn short-circuit fault detection and isolation in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSMs). Usually, external disturbances or other faults may produce similar symptoms on signal-based fault detection strategies, thus producing false alarms. To avoid this disadvantages, the proposed strategy is based on measurement of the voltages at the midpoint of the stator windings at each phase. Unlike the phase voltages, the midpoint voltage allows decoupling the undesired disturbances in order to ensure early detection and isolation of a stator fault. For experimental validation of the proposed strategy, several laboratory tests were performed using a PMSM prototype with modified stator windings. The experimental results presented under different fault severity conditions (from 2.08% to 6.94% faulty turns) show that the strategy allows the early detection of the incipient interturn short-circuit fault.
