The volume presents an anthology of studies?previously published, many of them in Italian?by Mario Liverani, a foremost scholar of the ancient Near East, and edited and translated by Niels Peter Lemche and Emanuel Pfoh. The volume belongs in the Changing Perspective subseries of the Copenhagen International Seminar series. The present volume contains 18 essays, 11 of which that have originally been published in Italian are now published in English for the first time. It represents an important contribution to ancient Near Eastern and Biblical studies, exposing the innovative interpretations of Liverani on many historical and ideological aspects of ancient society.
